5th Sundays

Each 5th Sunday of the month we use as an opportunity to do something a bit different for our worship service! In April the morning was a great time of worship, testimony, and prayer together. All were invited to consider sharing a testimony, scripture, praise, burden, or word God was placing on their heart. We welcome not only stories of victory, but also of struggle. If you missed the service, you can watch the livestream link here

The next 5th Sunday on the calendar is in July.

How Does a Weary World Rejoice?

The advent season often focuses on joy, but when we’re facing challenges in our lives or feeling the weight of the brokenness in the world, it can be hard to rejoice. Taking another look at the Christmas story we find these same themes, but also ways to lean in to the Good News we’ve been longing to experience more fully.

You can find the messages from Pastor Scott on our YouTube channel here.

Live Free Series

This fall our series journeyed through a study in Galatians, explaining how we can Live Free! Life with God isn't about following a series of rules, but about knowing Him through his son, Jesus. But sometimes we try to live life as Jesus + ... Jesus plus the various ways we try to ensure our own future. But he came to set us free from that - there's a new way to live!

You can find the messages from Pastor Scott and other guest speakers on our YouTube channel here.

Seeking
The season of Lent is the weeks leading up to Easter. We are starting a new series that will take us into Easter and beyond, called Seeking: Honest Questions for a Deeper Faith. Through stories in scripture, we find people who are seeking; as we ask their honest questions and center them around Jesus, we discover a deeper faith.  Like those in the scriptures, we are also seeking many things: clarity, connection, justice, balance; how to live as a in this world as disciple. Throughout the turbulence of the past few years, many of us are asking big questions about our lives and our faith. If you are returning to church, you are  may be coming with more questions and a critical lens. We hope this series will help us unpack some of those big questions in ways that are honest and faithful. Throughout this season, we hope you will continually ask yourself: what am I seeking? What is God seeking?

Sabbatical Season
Pastor Scott was away for a 3 month ministry sabbatical from December through March. On Sundays, the message was brought by a Butler member or guest speaker. (You can find livestreams here.) Our whole church family was invited to 'lean in' to help and grow during this season. [For more information about Sabbaticals and ways to lean in during this season, click here.]

Advent Series 2022

The four Sundays leading up to Christmas mark the advent season, a time of anticipation of the arrival of Christ. Our sermon series during advent was called “Generation to Generation” and explored the ways in which the coming of Christ - and the hope, peace, love and joy that he offers - is woven into generations past, present and future. We invite you to participate with expectation, and with a friend; let’s share the love of Christ this Christmas season!

You can find more information about this series, including a livestream playlist and resources, here.

The Deeply Formed Life series

This sermon series (Fall 2022) is aimed at growing a deep & healthy spiritual root system that will not only help us withstand the many trials of life, but actually thrive in the midst of them! The Deeply Formed Life is based on the book of the same title by Rich Villodas. The series explores important topics and practices that will deepen our faith and produce great fruit. [read more here]

My hope is that through this time, you and I will grow deeper in our faith together.  - Pastor Scott

Volume up on Jesus

In this season of Lent, let’s renew our focus daily by looking for ways to turn-up the volume on Jesus in our lives for the next 40 plus days. For more on this, and a list of ideas, click here! In Common Ground we in a new series, Beauty for Ashes. Perhaps, as you “turn up Jesus” in the weeks ahead he might reveal some of that beauty in the midst of the everyday. We want to hear about it!

About Common Ground

Sunday Worship Services

We are having regular indoor worship services on Sundays at 10:45 am! We are thankful for the gift of being able worship together in person, as well as online.

Children's Sunday School is now happening every Sunday during the 11:00 hour. We are following covid-safe guidelines, including screening for symptoms before arriving on campus. Facemasks are not required but strongly encouraged for everyone, keeping in mind those who are at risk or not fully vaccinated, including children. Services will continue to be available via the livestream and on Facebook and Youtube (see links below).

Common Ground at Butler Church

Common Ground is one of the congregations of our multi-cultural Butler family. We were drawn to the name Common Ground - not just because some of us are coffee lovers! - but because it frees us to be common people; people who are broken and make mistakes, but are being transformed. Also we find common ground with all people before the cross of Jesus. And, as the apostle Paul says, we will try to find common ground with everyone so that they may have a relationship Christ – not to just to be talking about our faith, but also living it! (I Corinthians 9:22)

Better Together

Relationship is at the heart of all we do as a Butler family.

Because of our multicultural context we know that building relationships takes time and can be complicated! But we follow Jesus' lead who found common ground with us so we could have a relationship with Him.
As a congregation, we worship together on Sundays, but grow in our faith and serve each other through children's & youth ministry, small group Bible studies, Butler's food distribution ministry, and special outreach events for our community, like Meet & Treat and Summer Celebrations. Join us in sharing the love of God with our community!

If attending in person is not an option for you, join us online for Church at Home!
