Real faith is best lived out in relationships based on the receiving and giving of love. We followers of Jesus of the Amor y Fe congregation of Butler Church are striving to live out this faith in our lives, often-times in a three-steps-forward and two-steps-backwards type fashion. Just how is this happening?

First, “upwardly” in our relationship with our Heavenly Father.  With outstretched arms we receive His love which enables us to:

  • Love ourselves as He loves us and experience His transforming power concerning our hurts, habits and hang ups
  • Love others as Jesus taught and modeled

With outstretched arms we also give love to God by:

  • Praising and thanking Him for all of His provisions
  • Seeking and obeying His perfect guidance for our lives

Second, love is lived out “inwardly” in our relationship with other followers of Jesus. With outstretched arms we receive God’s love through others by way of:

  • Words and deeds of encouragement when facing turmoil
  • Words of council when feeling confused
  • Words of correction when going astray
  • Words and deeds of mercy when we have offended a brother

With outstretched arms we also give love to other followers by:

  • Listening and caring
  • Edifying and building up
  • Forgiving and restoring

And third, love is evidenced “outwardly” in our relationship with those not having experienced God’s life-giving love.  With outstretched arms we manifest God’s love by:

  • Learning how to love everyone as Jesus loves them
  • Serving others in practical ways
  • Sharing God’s plan for abundant living in power and wisdom when appropriate

Such is the life of faith for those of the Congregación Hispana Amor y Fe – receiving love and giving love – upwardly, inwardly and outwardly. While we are imperfect in this noble calling, we endeavor to “love the Lord our God with all our heart, all our soul, all our mind, and all our strength” and to “love our neighbor as ourselves” (Mark 12: 31-32), inviting others to do likewise.
