From our worship leader, Chris Bennett:
Good Morning, Afternoon, Evening...wherever and whenever this finds you Butler Church family.
This week has been challenging for myself in a few different ways. Finding new rhythms for the day, figuring out how to work from home, and limiting social interactions are just a few examples of how things have changed for myself and I’m sure many of you. We don’t know when much of this will end or if it will usher in a different tempo and pace to our lives from here on out. What we do know is that we have God to guide us during this and every other time in our lives.
I’ve chosen a few songs for us to listen to and meditate on this week and while I could give a write up and explanation for each song, I’ll choose two specifically.
In the book of exodus we see God’s people coming out of captivity in Egypt and God giving them visible guidance and direction as they are walking through uncharted territory. Exodus 13:21 tells us “The LORD went ahead of them. He guided them during the day with a pillar of cloud, and he provided light at night with a pillar of fire. This allowed them to travel by day or by night”.
A lighthouse, much like the pillar of cloud or fire, is used by ships to guide them away from rocky and dangerous coastlines. It guides ships to safe places as they make their way through the fog and the dark. God is so much like that lighthouse, guiding and protecting us on this journey we are on.
Do you have any specific ways that you have seen God working and guiding you this week?
This song has resonated with so many people in the last few weeks. As I’ve been watching and listening to people navigate so much uncertainty around them, there is comfort in knowing that God will provide a way.
I’ve found so much comfort in acknowledging and naming the attributes of God and the ways that He works.
Way Maker. Miracle Worker. Promise Keeper. Light in the Darkness.
That is who He is!
Let us not forget that he is working and moving even when we don’t feel it or see it. God has not abandoned us or left us.
What are some other names and attributes of who God is that connect with you?
Be encouraged today friends. We serve a God that is working through all of this.
